Andvari
The cyber world of Andvari is a curious thing. Nobody quite knows who programmed it, nor how it works. But on your first trip to the world, a few things get laid out to you right away.
Upon starting the game, you will be...well, somewhat surprised. After going through the motions for signing up for online play, and creating your character, everything changes in the instant you select "Start Game". A swirl of colours assaults your senses, and a dull roar encompasses everything.
That is, until you suddenly find yourself standing in the middle of a crowed street, dressed as an elf, and with sudden knowledge upon how to wield the bow and arrow in your hand. Or, in the even that you didn't chose to be an elf, well, you would be dressed as your respective race, with their respective strengths and weaknesses. But for the purposes of this explanation, I will be using Elf as an example. Although at first, you may be tempted to panic, please refrain. If you do show signs of panicking, the game sends an older Mage to sort you out. Of course, after this, you may wish to leave, and you will always be able to do that whenever you wish. To log out, simply look at the band on your wrist, and clearly state "Home." Another bright flash of light, and another dull roar, and you will be sitting exactly where you started, wondering if you fell asleep and dreamed what just happened.
But on the assumption that you decide to stay, the Mage will be the first person to welcome you to the vast lands of Andvari. Although be forwarned, not all people will be quite as welcoming. You will be provided with a map, the rules, and perhaps a few tips...if you're nice. After that, the Mage will vanish, and you will be left alone in the great city of Avalon, the starting point for all new players.
In the world, you may encounter viruses, rouge programs, and run of the mill spyware, masking as ogres, orcs, trolls, and all manner of beasts that would rather see you come to harm. Of course, you must always watch out for your fellow player, because just as many of them would as soon help you, as stab you in the back. The rules of the game are simple, although if you break them, you will suffer consequences.
The Rules
1. If you die, you will be ejected from the game for 24 hours, and you may not re-enter before that. You will not lose your items.
2. Do not cheat.
3. All injuries received inside the game will not exist in the outside world.
Of course, many players have advanced beyond the ranks of simply following quests and have twisted the game to their own means. These people are called Hackers. Few of these people are actually good enough to escape the rules of the game...But the few that are, hold power of Andvari in the palm of their hands. They can manipulate the code around them at will, making them very formidable forces. Of course, every character, after a while, can manipulate the strings of code around them to a certain degree, giving them extra powers, but only the more experienced gamers have managed to accomplish this.
The two best hackers in the game, are named Seraph and Macphisto. Both of them have managed to become expert hackers without being accused of cheating. Even able to change what kind of character they were, creating two new races, and wielding incredible amounts of power respectively. Although rarely seen, it is rumoured among players that they each have their own area of the game, inaccessible to anybody, but themselves and their guests.
In the game, everyone is known exclusively by their screen name. Any attempts to share personal information will be blocked in the interest of safety. It should also be noted that your screen name cannot be cutiebabiiii2343232. Please, think of it like a code name from X-Men or something. Also, if your real name is Jessica your screen name will be rejected if you try to make it Jessica The Great. Understood?
Andvari is a wonderful, diverse experience, and we hope you choose to take your chances inside the game. From the wide streets of Avalon, to the tiny huts of Von, there is so much to be explored, things to try, people to meet and goals to complete. Immerse yourself today.
